Isaiah Rogers throws 67-10 to win the shot put Dunmore leads McEachern in 6A with 200/400 wins
It was a fast weekend at the Georgia State Girls State Track and Field Championships, as sprinters highlighted the three-day meet at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.
Girls Highlights (5/7/16)
- McEachern senior Makenzie Dunmore claimed the 6A 400 meter crown in an impressive 53.01 seconds, a current U.S. No. 3 time. The Oregon-bound sprinter won the 200 (23.82) and was part of the winning 4x400 relay squad that finished with the top time of the entire meet (3:44.87).
- Warner Robins senior Cassondra Hall took home wins in the 5A 100 and 200. The LSU-signee clocked 11.49 in the 100 and ran 23.88 in the 200.
- Zion Lewis of Creekview soared to a 5A triple jump title, going 40-feet, 2 1/5 inches. Lewis was also runner-up in the 100 (11.80) and 200 (24.41).
- Amecia Pennamon of Mary Persons won the 4A 100 (11.76), she was one of five individuals to clock under 12 seconds in the final. Pennamon also won the 200 (23.81).
- Victoria Powell of Lovett clocked 53.94 to win the 2A 400 crown.
- Tia Jones of Walton won 6A 100 hurdles in a current U.S. No. 4 time of ran 13.20.
- Milton senior Riley Burr won the 6A 800 (2:10.60) and 1,600 (4:48.80) titles.
- Lindsay Billings of Northview led a strong pack in the 6A 3,200, winning in 10:21.74. Savannah Carnahan of South Forsyth was runner-up in 10:27.35.
- Anna Marian Block of Athens Academy claimed the 1A Private 800 title in 2:10.82 and 1,600 (4:51.28).
- First Presbyterian's Carson Dingler won the 1A Private pole vault title, clearing 13-2, a current top 15 mark.
- In the high jump, NaTosha Jordan of Richmond Academy (5A) and Imani Carmouche of Mt. Zion Jonesbo (4A) both cleared 5-8 to claim victory.
- Taylor DeLoach of St. Vincent went 20-05.25 in the long jump to win the 2A title.
- Gordon Lee's Madelyn Lee had the top throws to win the 2A shot put (44-09) and discus (132-05) crowns.
Boys Highlights (5/14/16)
- The Georgia State Boys' Track and Field Championships were filled with big throws and fast times this weekend at Memorial Stadium.
- Isaiah Rogers of Campbell erupted for a season-best 67 feet, 10 inches in the shot put to win the 6A title. The TCU-signee broke 66 feet three times as he held off Samuel Wright of Archer (64-2.50).
- After a third place finish in the shot put, Ryan Camp of Archer claimed the 6A discus crown tossing for 194 feet.
- Jeremiah Holloman exploded for a top five triple jump in the country, going 49-05.50 feet to win the 6A title.
- Flowey Branch senior Jake Shewbert was the top distance runner at the state meet, winning the 5A 3,200 in an impressive 9:02.94 and claiming the 1,600 title earlier on Thursday in 4:11.64.
- Sophomore Elija Godwin of Newton raced to 6A wins in the 200 (21.5) and 400 (47.4).
- Tyler Barber of Mountain View won the 6A 800 title in 1:53.62.
- Andrew Kent of Lakeside DeKalb won the 6A 1,600 in 4:13.07 leading seven runners under 4:20.
- Javian Williams of Early County won the 2A triple jump title in 49.04.50.
- Renault Griffin of Greenville (1A Public) and Ratayvius Jackson of Eastside (4A) both cleared 6-8 in the high jump to win state titles.
- Jack Cahillane of Westminster had the highest vault, winning the 3A pole vault crown in 15-feet.
